Impact of Agrarian Crisis on Children
Farmer suicides and farm crisis have stolen childhood of many children in rural India. Children are affected in diverse ways by agrarian crisis owing to several factors like one’s location, community they belong to, size of landholding, amount and source of loan, age, gender, birth order, type of family, etc.
Teenage children are forced to support the family and repay the loans made by one’s late father. Many children from these families are working as wage labour. There are several cases of children from private schools shifting to government schools due to financial constraints. Situation of children from families affected by farm crisis reveals violation of child’s right to survival, protection, development and participation.
